Revised Capital Development Program
[updated 13 October 2010]
Dear Parents
I draw your attention to a revised plan for re-locating Junior and Middle School students for 2011 and beyond.
We are revising our capital program for a number of reasons.
We’ve determined the old plan is not the most appropriate to take us into the future. We now have a new plan to guide the college’s development. A number of the reasons for this re evaluation are beyond our control:
- The Brisbane City Council (BCC) delays with development approvals have compounded the need for a revision of the plans, mostly because of State and Federal government initiatives in the interim years.
- The Global Financial Crisis (GFC) has caused everyone to do some belt tightening.
- There has been changed financial accountability processes introduced for schools, resulting in slower loan approval processes.
- The State Government’s ‘New Start’ (introduction of Kindergarten and Year 7 moving to High School for 2014) initiative means that our original plan for the Junior School cannot be adapted to absorb this new direction.
While it wasn’t our first option, our revised plan has a number of benefits.
The revised plan actually allows us to get more students in to permanent facilities sooner, utilising our existing facilities across the college. With the uncertainty flowing from the government initiatives, this approach provides flexibility of planning over the next five to seven years and the revised plan gives us a stable plan to move forward within the next twelve to eighteen months.
We’ve never been more committed to providing a quality education for our students.
Redeemer is widely known for its caring community, Christian values and mission and the pursuit of excellence - this will not change. We will be closely managing the cultural issues that will be critical in implementing the new plan. No revised building program should change the culture and practice of the college.

The Changes in More Detail
The revised plan will result in a re-drawing of the boundaries for all three sub-schools, with changes of class location for the Junior and Middle Schools; it will come into effect for the start of 2011.
