Grandparents & Special Friends 2012

Advance notice is given to all families about two special days being held early in 2012 for Grandparents and Special Friends of students.

"Grandparents Day" changed in 2009 to better accommodate the number of visitors that we now receive across all three sub-schools. It allows the students and visitors to have more quality time together in the appropriate sub-schools.

We also changed the name of the day/s to "Grandparents and Special Friends" which now encourages students without grandparents to invite along a special friend, which may for example be an aunt or uncle.

An invitation and RSVP form will be sent home together with the  Redeemer Blue newsletter  in March.  A copy may also be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page.

Grandparents or special friends who have students in either Prep - Year 5 as well as Years 6-12 are welcome to attend both days.

Thursday 26 April 2012: Years 6-12 (Redeemer Chapel)

The Middle School and Senior School program commences with a special music concert being held first up at 9.00am in Redeemer Chapel. Students will then have the opportunity to show their guests around the college campus, and then share morning tea together. The morning will conclude at 11.15am when students return to class.

8.30am-9.00am	Grandparents arrive at Redeemer
9.00am	Grandparents move into Redeemer Chapel.
9.05am	Official Welcome and Music Concert.
9.55am	Tour of the college by the students of Grandparents or Special Visitors
10.30am	Morning tea is served at the Chapel Hub.
11.15am	Morning concludes and students return to class.

Friday 27 April 2012: Prep - Year 5 (Multi-Purpose Centre)

The day will commence at 8.30am in the new Multi-Purpose Centre where Junior School classes will be involved. Students then have some quality time in the classroom with their special visitors, followed morning tea in the Multi-Purpose Centre Auditorium. The morning will conclude at 11.00am.

8.30am	Grandparents and Special Friends arrive at the Multi-Purpose Centre
8.40am	Junior School Chapel with class presentations by students.
9.45am	Junior School Classroom Visits (with a visit to the Book Fair located in the Middle School Undercover Area)
10.25am	Morning Tea in the Multi-Purpose Centre Auditorium.
11.00am	Morning concludes and students return to class.

Car Parking

Parents and Grandparents should be aware that the car parks will be very busy on both of these days. The college will have car parking attendants available in the vicinity of the Chapel Green to park as many cars as possible in to the space available. We would recommend that should you be concerned about finding a space for your grandparents, that you arrive early to secure a space close to the Chapel area on Thursday or the Junior School on Friday.

Can Parents also attend Grandparents Day?

The day is primarily designed for Grandparents and Special Friends. Due to the very large numbers that attend on both days, we would request that only the child's Grandparents attend. If the child's Grandparents require special care, then parents may also attend to assist. We request that no more than four visitors attend per child (eg: two sets of Grandparents).

What if my Child has no Grandparents that can attend?

If your child has no Grandparents available to attend, then you may have a Special Friend attend. This may include an aunty, uncle, friend, neighbour (or parent). This must be indicated on the RSVP form.

Parent Helpers

If parents do wish to attend on the day, we would welcome your help to assist with the serving of tea and coffee for morning tea from the chapel kitchen on both days from approx 10.15am-11.00am. Book Fair

This year’s Book Fair will be held on 23-27 April in the Middle School Resource Centre (MRC). As these dates coincide with Grandparents & Special Friends Day, visiting Grandparents and special friends are also invited to peruse these books and may even like to donate a book to the Junior School Library.
