Gold Coast Eisteddfod – Choral Success

​On Friday 10 August, three of Redeemer’s choirs travelled to the Gold Coast Arts Centre to perform at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. All three choirs delivered outstanding performances and the Music Department is very excited to share the achievements of these students: Redeemer Voiceworx placed third, Redeemer Chorale placed second, and Senior Singers were awarded first place (the Harley Mead Memorial Prize) in the Premier Grade event of the eisteddfod for the second year in a row.

Redeemer Music Tours Tasmania

On the second Wednesday of the school holidays, 56 choral singers and 6 staff members left Brisbane on our tour to the Festival of Voices in Hobart, Tasmania. Excited to share our music and embrace many experiences, Redeemer’s Senior Singers, Chorale and The Fellas spent the week sight-seeing, performing, undertaking workshops with national and international experts.

What an amazing four days of Interhouse Athletics action in the final week of Term 2. It all started on Tuesday with our Prep-Year 2 superstars. On Wednesday the Year 3-6 competitors had their chance to shine with some very impressive performances. Thursday and Friday saw the Year 7-12 big guns come out to play. There were numerous personal bests not to mention a few Redeemer records broken!

​Throughout Term 2, Year 1 students embarked on an exciting new learning journey with a focus around designing and implementing a restaurant in their classroom. This learning experience was in collaboration with their English unit on ‘Procedural Writing’, their Science unit on ‘Materials’, their Health unit on ‘Being Healthy and covered Mathematics concepts such as fractions, money, data, capacity, measurement and number.

Redeemer's Senior School Interhouse Pavement Art competition for 2018 was held on Friday 25 May. Students had to devise a design that involved subjects related to playing cards or an individual card design. It was very entertaining to observe the buzz of activity as the four Houses, each with four teams, worked diligently supported by the keen crowd of onlookers.

On Wednesday 21 February, the College received a phone call from Mr Andrew Laming, Federal MP for Bowman and Chair of the Standing Committee for Employment, Education and Training in Canberra. He wanted to congratulate the College on our students’ achievements in 2017 which placed Redeemer in the top ten of high school outcomes across all sectors (370 schools). Out of our 109 Year 12 cohort for 2017, 89 were OP eligible.

Our swimmers did us proud and brought back the gold at the Logan District Swimming Carnival! On Monday, 12 February, our swimmers were up early and arrived at the Logan Aquatic Centre to start their warm ups and prepared for a big day. The day was filled with enthusiastic swimmers and each one gave their best regardless of the heat. The participation was fantastic amongst our swimmers. There wasn’t one event that lacked support.

Redeemer Celebrates the 500th Reformation

Last Friday in the chapel, we enjoyed a wonderful whole school worship service to acknowledge and celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The service involved a lot of student input including items from the Senior Worship Band and Senior Singers. Our School Captains and Year 6 Leaders led us in prayer and student artwork and interviewing helped deliver the message. Mrs Stelzers address also importantly reminded all in attendance of why the Reformation is still relevant and indeed, why it is still worth celebrating today.

A small gathering of past College Admin staff from 1992 and representatives from the Lions Club, reunited at the front of the College Administration building for the opening of a time capsule scheduled to be opened on 28 February 2017. The time capsule was laid on the opening day of the College Administration building in 1992, and commemorates 75 years of service of Lions Club International, in the 100th year of Lions Club International, and the 25th Chapter Anniversary of the former Lions Club of Daisy Hill.

Today our group went rock climbing. It practiced our belaying and climbing skills. The rockface was 25m high. Two people on different ropes would climb up at the same time with our leaders making sure our harnesses and double figure 8 knots we had learned and tied ourselves, were safe.

Senior Finale Music Concert

​On Friday 28 October, the Senior School Finale Concert was held in the KCA. All the senior groups performed beautifully, with a number of show medley’s presented by our groups amidst the Gospel, World, Jazz and Classical repertoire. Voiceworx joined Chorale, Senior Strings joined the Senior Singers and the Fella’s belted out some sensational arrangements from the time-vault, as did the Flute Ensemble. The Stage Band played their repertoire which they then presented at MusicFest on the Saturday, where they took out the Silver award.

On Friday 28 October, the Community Service and Cultural Committees joined forces to host Redeemer's annual 'Lunch on the Green'. Senior School students were treated to great musical talent whilst enjoying beautiful Spring weather! A sausage sizzle and drinks stall raised $600 to be donated to Orange Sky Laundry and Multiple Sclerosis research.
