Book Week: Escape to Everywhere!

What an amazing parade in our Junior School Assembly this morning as a finale to our Book Week celebrations of "Escape to Everywhere!" Well done students, staff and parents on some fantastic costumes!

Each year, across Australia, The Children’s Book Council of Australia brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. This week there are lots of exciting activities to promote reading and an enjoyment of books.

At first break on Monday, Miss Tamara Zingelmann lead the students around the Library to find clues to unlock the code of her suitcase finding the winning books to the Children’s book council of Australia awards for 2017.

On Tuesday Year 5 students were visited by author, Brian Falkner who inspired the students to ask the question ‘what if…’. The Year 6 students participated in a writer’s workshop with Brian. We look forward to reading their finished work.

On WednesdaySpeak Up Speech and Drama Studio presented ‘Escape to Everywhere’. Students went on an exciting adventure as they extended their voices, their imaginations and their confidence speaking in front of a group. They began by sailing away with a concentration and focus game set on a ship, then flew away as they learnt a wonderfully silly poem by Shel Silverstein. Then they checked their maps and set their compasses as they moved on to a drama activity that explores the five senses, and finished with a guided mime based on the story of Jack and The Beanstalk.

On ThursdayPerform Educational Musicals presents – ‘Super Duper’for Prep to Year 4. Super Duper is a brand new educational musical for schools with an exciting, dynamic and interactive narrative created to celebrate Book Week 2017, the CBCA shortlist and its 2017 theme Escape to Everywhere.

Exploring the themes of striving to be your best and not underestimating people’s potentialSUPER DUPER also literally gets students involved in the story as decisions made by the audience during the show help determine what happens.

Friday – The Book Week costume parade. This special day commenced with a Book Day costume parade when students are invited to come dressed in the Book Week theme – Escape to Everywhere or their favourite book character. Parents and friends filled the MPC to view the Book Day costume parade, which was a wonderful collection of costumes and characters! Well done students, staff and parents on a fantastic parade!
