2022 Scholarship Opportunities

As one of the leading College’s on Brisbane’s Southside, Redeemer Lutheran College offers limited Scholarships to existing and prospective students. Scholarships are offered to students with a demonstrated high degree of excellence in his or her chosen area, combined with a high degree of personal commitment.

Redeemer Lutheran College is now offering Scholarships for all year levels from Year 5 onwards, for three key areas of excellence.  All Scholarships are up to 50% of the tuition fee and tenable until the end of Year 12.

Scholarships available are:

  • Academic Scholarships
  • Performing and Creative Arts Scholarships (Music, Drama, Visual Art/Media)
  • Sport Scholarships

Procedures to Register

Registrations open 29 September 2020 and close at 4.00pm on Monday 8 February, 2021. Late submissions will not be accepted.

STEP 1 - Register for a Primary or Secondary Scholarship Test

This link will take you to the ACER Scholarship registration page, where you will be required to make a payment to ACER of $110.00). Please note that current students of Redeemer Lutheran College are also required to register for a Scholarship test, in addition to submitting a Scholarship Portfolio, as outlined below.

STEP 2 - Submit Written Scholarship Portfolio to the College by 8 February, 2021

This link will provide you with an Application Cover Sheet.  Please place it on top of your written Portfolio before submitting to the College by Monday 8 February, 2021.

Details of Testing

The Scholarship examination (for ALL students applying for a Scholarship) will be held on Saturday 27 February 2021 at Redeemer Lutheran College, commencing at 9.00am, and finishing at approximately 11.30am. The ACER testing registration fee is $110. You only need to register once.

Scholarship Requirements

1.    Written Scholarship Portfolio must be delivered to the College by 4.00pm on Monday 8 February, 2021.

2.    Scholarship Portfolio must include a Scholarship Cover Sheet for each Scholarship you are applying for, and a covering letter detailing why you are applying for this type of Scholarship. Separate applications are required for each category. One application for both categories will not be accepted.

3.    Scholarship Portfolio must include photocopies of school reports (minimum of 2 recent consecutive years), certificates and acknowledgements that have been referenced in the Portfolio (even if you are a current Redeemer family). Original documents will not be returned.

4.    Shortlisted students may also participate in a relaxed and informal personal interview with the Principal or Deputy Principal to explore the student’s potential, study and life ethos and hidden attributes. 

Scholarship Criteria

To gain and maintain an Academic, Performing and Creative Arts or Sporting Scholarship, students must have achieved a high standard in their field, as demonstrated by objective criteria, such as examinations and/or official competitions; be able to demonstrate that they are of good character and in good standing with their school, demonstrate that they actively contribute to their school (and maybe wider) community through their field of giftedness. 

Awarding of Scholarships

The awarding of Scholarships takes into account objective information (e.g. test results), supporting information and the interview/audition process. Applicants are notified of the outcome by letter. The decision of the Principal in respect of awarding all Scholarships will be final.

Academic Scholarships:

Scholarship holder will:

  1. Be supportive of the Christian values of the College.
  2. Possess an excellent behavioural record.
  3. Uphold the College expectations and standards in all areas of College life, including uniform expectations, and attendance requirements, as outlined in the Parent Handbook.
  4. Achieve a minimum High Academic Achievement overall (HA) on all semester reports.
  5. Be active in the co-curricular life of the College with a minimum participation of two co-curricular activities per year.

Performing and Creative Arts Scholarships:

Scholarship holder will:

  1. Be supportive of the Christian values of the College.
  2. Possess an excellent behavioural record.
  3. Uphold the College expectations and standards in all areas of College life, including uniform expectations, and attendance requirements, as outlined in the Parent Handbook.
  4. Achieve a minimum High Academic Achievement overall (HA) on all semester reports.
  5. Perform at a high level and a high level of participation in Music, Visual Arts, Media or Drama, with a minimum participation in two ensembles or cultural activities per year.
  6. Select the required subject relevant to your Scholarship allocation (Music, Visual Arts, Media or Drama) throughout the duration of enrolment (where choosing subjects is applicable).
  • Music - Several years’ successful experience as an instrumentalist or vocalist is required.  Details of performance, Eisteddfod results, examination and tuition history must be supplied.  A written reference from the student’s music teacher may also be included. Preference is given to students who can participate in more than one area of expertise. Students will be required to attend an audition.
  • Drama - Details of performance, Eisteddfod results, examination and tuition history must be supplied.  A written reference from the student’s performing arts teacher may also be included. Students will be required to attend an audition.
  • Visual Arts/Media - In addition to your written Portfolio, including competition results, experience and tuition (if undertaken), a portfolio of work should be submitted in a PowerPoint format, consisting of no more than 6 slides.  A written reference from the student’s visual arts or media teacher may also be included (not necessary for existing Redeemer students).  Students who are successful in the first round will be required to attend an audition/workshop.

Sport Scholarships:

Scholarship holder will:

  1. Be supportive of the Christian values of the College.
  2. Possess an excellent behavioural record.
  3. Uphold the College expectations and standards in all areas of College life, including uniform expectations, and attendance requirements, as outlined in the Parent Handbook.
  4. Achieve a minimum Sound Academic Achievement overall (SA) on all semester reports.
  5. Perform at a high level and a high level of participation in at least two areas of the Sports program.

Sporting scholarships are available to students who have achieved at a high level and participate regularly in school representative sport. Applicants should be capable of achieving at a district level, or higher, in one or more of the Queensland School Sports (AFL, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Football - Soccer, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Swimming, Tennis, Touch, Volleyball). High level athletes in other fields are still invited to apply.

Information about specific achievements, including captaincy or other leadership roles, in competition/representation should be submitted with the Application. Please note, achievement must be in school competition, not club (e.g. Little Athletics, local Soccer club).

Conditions for all Scholarship Categories:

The defining expectation is that successful applicants will give their very best in all their endeavours whilst at Redeemer Lutheran College and contribute to both the curricular and co-curricular (both semesters) life of the College.

Redeemer Lutheran College reserves the right to review the Scholarships annually, typically undertaken through an interview(s) and/or reports requested by the Principal from relevant staff.

The Scholarship may be forfeited as a consequence of poor behaviour and/or poor attitude including poor or nil participation in the College’s co-curricular programs.

It should be noted that if the student was to transfer to another school before the end of Year 12, parents will be required to repay the scholarship percentage received from commencement to conclusion of the student’s enrolment.

Scholarship recipients are expected to remain at the College until they graduate in Year 12.  Redeemer Lutheran College has the right to terminate a Scholarship at any time should the student’s academic or personal progress and performance be deemed unacceptable.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants applying for a Scholarship must attend the Year 9 Outdoor Education Program for the full duration of the program (4 weeks).
  2. Applicants must attend the Year 11 Leadership Camp (3 days).
  3. Successful Scholarship recipients must complete an Application for Enrolment to be signed by both parents/guardians prior to the interview stage.
  4. Students studying on an international visa (sub-class 500) are unable to apply.
