Vision For Learning

Redeemer’s Vision for Learning

Redeemer Lutheran College seeks to equip its students as life-long learners in the 21st Century. Our Mission Statement and Values guide and underpin all that we do.

Redeemer believes all learners are inherently valuable, and staff, students and parents collectively form a learning community.

Learning incorporates appropriate experiences and technologies that enable students to reflect upon and contribute to the world of today.

Redeemer Lutheran College aims to personalise learning in a collaborative environment and to instill in students the desire to serve others and grow in relationships.

Pedagogical Framework

Redeemer has adopted The Art and Science of Teaching to be the pedagogical framework that supports the College’s Vision for Learning. Our teaching and learning is also informed by the research of John Hattie’s regarding Visible Learning. Central to all we do are our college Values.

Agile Learning

A number of Agile (or Flexible) Learning Spaces have been developed across the College in both our Junior School and Senior School campuses in line with 21st century learning pedagogies. These newly furnished classrooms provide students and staff alike the opportunity to be more flexible in their learning and engagement with the curriculum. It provides students with greater choice, while still maintaining the structure needed to facilitate effective learning.

In addition to the indoor flexible classroom spaces, a number of outdoor spaces have also been developed across the College, which allows teaches and students to utilise outdoor areas as learning spaces.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

BYODs at school is a logical fit in a connected society that is both increasingly personalised, and global. Students are living in a world of personal ICT devices and increasing connectivity. We believe that a college BYOD program best supports and prepares students as life-long learners.

A BYOD program not only develops digital literacies and responsibilities in students, but also literacy, numeracy and collaborative, creativity and inquiry skills. Students come to appreciate ICTs not just as a social or entertainment device, but also a work tool.

In order to create a safe and effective learning environment, Junior School and Senior School students are provided with clear guidelines to enable them to manage their devices as safely and effectively as possible. Throughout the year, support is provided for students to develop the skills necessary to manage their device, software and document storage / file management etc.

The College continues to provide the appropriate hardware and software throughout the campus to support specialist student learning. Students access computer labs when necessary to support the requirements of the Design and Digital Technologies, and multimedia production.

Learning Mentor Program

All students in Years 7-12 participate in the Learning Mentor Journey, a program developed to enhance student learning and wellbeing.

The Learning Mentor journey is pivotal to the motivation and success of students at Redeemer Lutheran College. This innovative practice ensures that each student has the opportunity to meet with a staff learning mentor (in addition to subject teachers), who will monitor their academic progress.

Through the structured program, learning mentors meet with students to discuss academic achievement and to set short and long term goals. Learning mentors discuss challenges that may be impacting on student development, success at school and beyond. The Learning Mentor provides valuable observations and information about the progress of each individual student to key staff, including the Pastoral Care Leader, Learning Enrichment staff, Counsellors and subject teachers and will oversee student self-reporting to parents.

Learning mentor time activities aim to enhance student personal development, with a focus on life-long wellbeing. Providing each student with learning mentor time addresses the essence of our vision and values. In particular, the role provides for personalised study and learning opportunities that are flexible and authentic and that meet each student’s aspirations and educational needs.

The Goals of the Learning Mentoring Program are to:

  • enhance student wellbeing and optimism through personal development education
  • establish effective relationships
  • ensure that each student has access to a learning mentor who supports their academic, social and emotional growth
  • provide and encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning
  • identify individual student needs and set short term and long term goals
  • provide time for collaboration, peer tutoring and individualised study
  • improve educational participation and achievement
  • build personal, career development and employment skills
