The Redeemer Festival - Bringing Our Community Together

‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!’ – Psalm 133:1

Our community joined together last Friday, 9 October for the biennial Redeemer Festival, and what an incredibly fun and successful evening it was. This wonderful celebration of our community had one goal: to foster connection and joy and to bring together students, families, staff and friends for a truly memorable day.

There was excitement around every corner with carnival games, festival rides, quiz shows, our student art exhibition, and a variety of business stalls managed by our own Year 8 and 9 students. Our barbeque team comprising of students and staff worked non-stop throughout the evening to keep everyone fed along with our food truck partners. And who can forget the always-popular Dunk Tank.

The heart of the Festival was our wonderfully talented students and community members who performed throughout the night, filling the air with song, dance, and music. It was great to see the range of Redeemer talent on stage from our brave Year 1s to our Senior performers. Our students also had the opportunity to go head to head with Principal Schumacher in an "Are you smarter than the Principal" challenge to prove which Year Level (or staff member) had the greatest general knowledge, with Mr Schumacher's expansive knowledge of AFL only getting him so far.

Another highlight was our students partaking in the World's Greatest Shave with a live hair shave and cut on the main stage. This was the culmination of an incredibly successful charity drive by the students who managed to raise over $9,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. Our students should be commended on this impactful effort that greatly reflects their compassion and generosity - well worth the shaven heads and snipped braids. Please consider contributing to their fundraising efforts by making a donation via our fundraising page.

Events like the Redeemer Festival remind us that a school is more than classrooms and buildings. It is a community built on relationships, shared experiences and a commitment to one another. It was wonderful to see so many people volunteering, supporting activities and simply enjoying time together. The College extends a heartfelt thank you to Mrs Bianchi, our Dean of Faith and Community, for her exceptional leadership and organisation of the festival, and to our Parents and Friends Association for their generous support. Thank you also to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success. Together, we celebrated the spirit of Redeemer and the strength of our community!

The proceeds from the Redeemer Festival will go towards the purchase of a vehicle that will assist with Helping Hands and other College related activities. We'd also like to thank our sponsors of the night: Brisbane Sound Group who kindly donated the sound and lighting for our stage and Fade and Slice Barbers plus parent Belinda Ross from Stefan Hairdressers who donated their time to cut the hair for the World's Greatest Shave.
