As we settle into the new school year, we asked our 2026 College Captains, Marco Chan, Marina Chen, Katie Li and Zachary Richardson, to share their thoughts on what it means to be a student leader at Redeemer, and what they hope to see or achieve in their time in these roles.
Marco
"As a College Captain, my goal for this year is to build a deep connection not only with the Senior School, but also with the Junior School. Through initiatives such as Junior School Play, I hope that we can continue the connections already established by previous captains and foster greater cohesion from Prep all the way through to Year 12. Additionally, I aim to achieve this through servant leadership. In fact, one of the most important lessons I have learnt about being a student leader is the ability to serve others without expecting anything in return. By serving the Redeemer community in this way, I hope to build trust and unity, enabling our school to truly flourish as we move through 2026 and beyond!"
Marina
"Stepping into the role of College Captain is an incredible opportunity to serve with purpose and bring our theme, 'Free to Flourish', to life across the college. Building on the previous themes of 'Lift' and 'Foundations', this year is about intentional growth and helping our community thrive. To flourish is not passive. Like a fern expanding through every branch, Redeemer prospers when every student, whether creative, athletic, academic, or community-minded, is empowered to reach their full potential. As a student leader, I aim to provide momentum, inspiration, and support and am most excited to use this year as a launchpad for the future. I hope to create new opportunities for those who come after us, ensure those graduating feel enriched, and leave behind a college strengthened by the growth we have shared."
Katie
"I’m Katie, one of Redeemer's 2026 College Captains. To me, leadership at Redeemer is about carrying a responsibility rather than a title. It is about using the position to listen to the student body, to act when it matters, and to create opportunities for others to take the lead and flourish - and I feel so privileged to be trusted with that. I couldn’t be more excited for the year ahead, to work alongside our amazing leadership team and staff as we turn ideas into impact and help shape a memorable year for our community. Here’s to a year full of growth, smiles, and everything in between!"
Zachary
"I think the most important part of being a student leader at Redeemer is compassion for one another and having a selfless love for someone. As we have a relatively tight- knit community, I do believe in maintaining an honest community that thrives in humility and compassion, caring for each other even when nothing has happened. I am most looking forward to getting to know the new members of the community and planning exciting things for this year."
We look forward to watching their ideas come into fruition as they walk through the final chapter of their schooling journey, leading the way for their fellow students and future Redeemer leaders that are to come!
